MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

It’s been another busy week at the club. Preparation for the fast-approaching 23/24 season has moved up a few notches. The same number of teams as last season has been nominated for Wednesday Men’s, Thursday Women’s and Saturday Open Gender competitions with changes due to successful campaigns for Division 3 women and Division 6 Red Open Gender.

The Division 3 women celebrated winning their competition last season, so we now have a team in Division 1 and 2 on Thursday and a healthy squad to select from. Saturday Division 6 Red were runners up in their competition. We now have teams in Division 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 this year. Coaches and selectors have met for initial discussions.

Have I mentioned it before? The greens are looking magnificent and are performing to expectation.
Rob Holmes has been quietly working away to ensure the clubroom is well maintained. For those drawing the short straw for cleaning and needing to use the vacuum cleaner it works! Rob has replaced the roller and cleaned the filter thoroughly.

A re-establishment of a Ladies Gala Day by the Tournament committee is well underway. Heather Garnett has notified clubs of the details. Date is Monday November 27.
Due to the excellent number of new members signing up Jan Kruse has been very busy organising uniforms, vouchers and name badges. If she hasn’t contacted you just yet, please be patient.

Greens Maintenance
Monday has been selected for maintenance. Please refer to the noticeboard at the club for details. Take note that Ulli moves the rink pegs to ensure even wear of the greens, therefore on some days they maybe on white and others on black. Rink pegs are not to be moved by anyone other than Ulli without prior consultation.

Welcome to new members.
Membership is certainly heading in the right direction. It could be said that anyone coming through the doors is presented with a membership form, but not true. Feedback from them is that they enjoy the friendly welcoming atmosphere of the club.

Currently the club as welcomed 12 new pennant players, which is great news. The number includes those listed below.
Welcome another group of Pennant bowlers.

  • Gaby Lynch was welcomed as an Associate a couple of weeks ago has made the change to pennants.
  • Georgia Kolberg who has been a regular Thursday Night Owler for a few years has finally decided to play pennants.
  • Pip Malone has decided to play pennants. Pip is another recruit from Thursday Night Owls.
  • Scott Searles was welcomed a couple of weeks ago as an Associate has made the change to pennants.

All being well with clearances and committee agreement we are expecting to increase the number of pennant players.

Membership subscription fees
There will be no change to the fees for the 23/24 season. Details regarding payment will be communicated soon.

I thank the Marryatville Trust for supporting us therefore enabling the club to continually improve its facilities for members and visitors.

CLUB DINNERS

What a great way to welcome back the Friday night dinners with last Friday's meal of roast lamb and vegetables with cheesecake for sweets. Thanks to all those involved on the night from serving, to raffles, to clean up, to those just there for the members' draw. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves! Next fortnight's meal consists of Chicken Roulade followed by lemon and blueberry slice for dessert. Don't forget to put your names down to avoid missing out.

PARADISE MAZDA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR 2023-2024

We are hoping to start a little earlier this year for the Paradise Mazda Club Championships so please find all the information and the entry forms attached below. Entry is $5 per event or $15 for 3 or more. Thinking about the cost of living and constant price increases, the championships entry cost remains the same as last year with a better price once 3 events or more are entered.

Entries, including fees in cash, are to be lodged in the blue box by the office or directly with Ryan Wilkins. The last day for lodging entries is October 9. You can also find copies of the entry forms (with envelopes) in the clubhouse next to the BLUE BOX by the office.

The more entries we have the more fun for everyone.

SUPER CHALLENGE

The Club Super Challenge (formerly known as Taylors Cup) is scheduled to start on November 12th this year. We have some 16 players who have expressed interest in competing and each week we need to select a team of 10 players.

As you can see we will have to rotate players in and out of the team each week and I will be seeking more info on your availability each week as we get closer to starting. For those who have not been involved previously the matches start around 6.00 pm and cost per player is $ 5.00 per game. Host clubs usually provide a BBQ from about 5 pm and practice is on the rinks you will be playing on after 5.30 pm.

Any questions just ask.

Cheers
Peter Douglas (Co-ordinator)

COME AND TRY LAWN BOWLS

Our two come ‘n’ try bowls events are taking place shortly – on Sunday Sept 10 and Sept 24 from 1.30 – 4.30 pm.  As usual the club is looking for volunteers to help provide visitors with a fun bowling experience and an enjoyable afternoon.

We don’t know how many will turn up on the day, but I would like to build a sizable list of club helpers on standby, so to speak, who can turn up quickly when contacted.  It is unlikely that you will be needed for the full 3 hours.  Please contact Allan if you can help out, on the greens or indoors, on either or both days.  0431 137 865 or wilko_52@yahoo.com.au

NIGHT OWLS HELPERS

Night Owls begin on Tuesday Oct 10 and Thursday Oct 12.  A big thank you to the club members, who indicated on their bowling intentions survey, their willingness to help out with night owls.  We really could do with more help, however.  If you can spare an evening or two, either a Tuesday or Thursday night for an hour or two, you would be a great help to the organisers, particularly in the first few evenings when we may be getting novice bowlers coming along.

Thanks everyone, Allan Wilkins

HAPPY HOUR

Don't forget that happy hour takes place at the club each and every Friday night and it's a great way to socialise with other members of the KMBC family.
